Presently, it is quite difficult to determine the total international bandwidth in Rwanda. There are only two local ISPs in Rwanda, which provides most of the public institutions and some of the private institutions. These ISPs are: - Rwandatel (http://www.rwanda1.com) with 5 MB Up / 11 MB Down - Terracom (http://www.terracom.rw) with approximately the same. Terracom bought Rwandatel recently and the two ISPs will soon become one. However, most of the NGOs and some public institutions use VSAT. For example, the National University of Rwanda uses VSAT with the following Bandwidth: 768 Kbps Up / 2 Mbps Down and receives it through Taide (www.taide.net) >2)Please list the ISPs with external/international connectivity with >the following format: ISP LINK TYPE UPSTREAM PROVIDERS BANDWIDTH POP LOCATION ======= ========= ================== ========= ============ Rwandatel Not public Not public 5 MB/11 MB Kigali Terracom Not public Not public 5 MB/10 MB Kigali N.B.: Not public means that they did not provide this information. >ACADEMIC NETWORK: ================== >1) Please give a description of the Academic/Research Network. The Rwanda Education and Research Network (REDNET), aims to establish means to develop human capacity resources and scientific research. Its main objectives are: - To create an electronic network which links the 7 institution members of the academic network to each other and which provides them with high-speed connectivity to the Internet. - To train the technical staff of member institutions at high level in order to provide them with capacity to manage and utilize the academic network. >2) How many institutions are connected to the Rwanda Educational >Network? The founding members are: - The National University of Rwanda (NUR) - The Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) - The Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (ISAE) - The Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) - The Scientific Institute of Agriculture and Research (ISAR) - The Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (IRST) - The Kigali Health Institute (KHI), and - Kigali Central Hospital (KCH) Hope this helps.
