During late August I was in Angola connecting a local University (Universidade Agostinho Neto) to the Portuguese Academic Network (RCCN) with a 19.200 bps line. It's very hard to get other kind of line, but we hope to upgrade that connection to a 64K line until the end of 1997. Currently there is a local problem at Luanda (Angola) so there is no connectivity at all, the local PTT said that they'll solve this until the end of November. There local network is a thin ethernet connected to a Cisco 2511 router. They have 5 PCs (486) with Windows95 and a Pentium100 running Linux as a server. They also have some US Robotincs modems connected to the router to dial into the network from home. FCCN (Fundacao Nacional para a Computacao Cientifica - the organization that manages RCCN) and a Portuguese University (Instituto Superior Tecnico) are sponsering all this connection.
