L'Agence Tunisienne Internet (ATI) is the new Internet backbone in Tunisia. The old provider was l'Institut Regional des Sciences Informatiques et Telecommunications ( IRSIT). In technical terms, the connection was upgraded from a 9.6 to a 512K line that goes directly to the US. All the equipment that was at IRSIT had to be moved to ATI. Meanwhile, the service was slow and at times had to be interrupted. Things are going back to normal, the waiting list for new accounts is still long but things are beeing processed as best as possible. I suggest you visit l'ATI's web site for more information: www.ati.tn. Once you are in Tunis, I suggest you call (216 1) 351 799 to apply for an account. Best regards Sana Bellamine
