BKNIX Launch, Bangkok Internet Exchange

On February 9, the Bangkok Neutral Internet eXchange (BKNIX) launched operations as a neutral Internet Exchange Point to improve Internet connectivity by keeping local traffic local and to more efficiently utilize the international fiber links for international traffic. Steve Huter and Philip Smith from the NSRC; Randy Bush, Network Operator at Internet Initiative Japan; and Dr. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice-President of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation, were on hand to take part in the launch. The NSRC donated a Ganeti cluster of three physical servers to BKNIX.
