Advanced ccTLD Workshop Assessment and Planning Guide

=

This assessment form is to help us determine what topics and direction to taken when we finalize a course outline for upcoming ccTLD workshops. We wish to customize the workshop topics to areas that will be useful to you. The more information you can give us in this assessment document, the better we will be able to do this.

1. SELF-ASSESSMENT

1a. Describe a major challenge that you have faced over the last months or years in operating and developing the registry operation.

For the development of the ccTLD.al Domain Name Administration as main requests was a Policy and the transfer of the ccTLD.al Master Servers from Pissa Italy to Albania. From May 2007 I was part of the working group for creating a policy in administering the ccTLD.al Domain Name. The policy was finished in September 2007. And in March 2008 the policy was approved by the TRE Board (The Board of the Sponsoring Organization of the ccTLD.al) and now we operate in base of this policy for registering the names under .AL. The second challenge is to transfer Master Server of ccTLD.al, from Pissa Italy to Albania. In this transfer are involved the Albanian Staff and the Administrators of the Servers in Pissa, Italy. We have the support of Prof. Francesco Gennai which will assist in preparing the New Servers and the necessary assistance for this transfer.

Please include:

	* The policy and the technical aspects of the challenge.
	* Interested parties who were involved in the process.
	* Solutions, if any, you have deployed to solve the challenge(s).
	* Tools or training that were included in your planning process.

1b. Describe the projects on which you are currently working to solve or deploy, and their importance (ranking).

Currently we are working on the system that will maintain the ccTLD.al domain names. We have planed to buy 2 Servers with OpenVMS OS. To support this project we have planed to organize training in: OpenVMS, Linux, and DNS. The transfer process will be assisted from the Administrators of the ccTLD.

Please include:

	* Interested parties involved in the process.
	* Plans for new hardware or software.
	* Additional skills or training that would support your project.

1c. Describe the major areas where you plan to spend resources (time, money) in the next two years and how important they are to your registry.

The major challenges for the next 2 years are the processes of the Development of the ccTLD.al Administration. Within 4 month we have planed to transfer the ccTLD.al Master Server from Italy to Albania. Within 1 year we have planed to develop the necessary software and hardware for the Registry ñ Registrar process. Currently the Sponsoring Organization is Registry and the only registrar for ccTLD.al domain names. We plain to have registrars for this we have to develop the necessary requirements. The third step will be the registrars. After preparing the environment we will make possible the interested companies to be registrars for the ccTLD.al domain name.

Please include:

	* A timeline (within 6 months, within 2 years, ..).

	* Additional requirements (staff, tools, software, etc.).

	* How did these topics make your list.
          (scaling issue, customer demand, value add service etc.)

	* Probability of actual deployment.
          (not very likely, rather likely, very likely, unavoidable).
