Additional Installed Software

We installed Ubuntu Server 9.10 on each PC in the classroom. We only included the OpenSSH server during installation. The following software is required to be installed during the week for the work done in class:

$ sudo apt-get install pkg-name

Installed Packages

• Nagios (done by students)
• Smokeping (done by students)
• Cacti (done by students)
• Wireshark (formaly Ethereal)
• iperf
• nmap
• iptraf
• ipcalc
• traceroute

These packages, in turn, install many other required dependent packages, such as MySQL, Apache, MRTG and RRDTool, and so forth.
