Program description
Workshop Goals
This workshop is a two part event, designed for engineers and system staffs at academic networks, who are involveed with managing the DNS infrastructure in their respective institutions, as well as those responsible for the management and monitoring of the network. Please review the Agenda to see the topics to be covered. Labs constitute about 60% of the course.
Goals
DNS Operations & Security: 2 days
- to secure DNS installations, and instrument them
- learn about DNS service monitoring, including latency
- to understand and learn about deploying DNS Security (DNSSEC) extensions
Network Management & Monitoring: 3 days
- review the principles of network monitoring and management
- learn about network management protocols (SNMP) and tools
- instrument a campus network or NREN equipment for monitoring
- deploy the tools to monitor and manage network infrastructure and IP services, including the DNS

Requirements
- A laptop with wireless capability.
- IPv4 addressing and general network concepts.
- Knowledge of UNIX and/or Linux.
