NSRC - TEIN4 NOC - AIT intERLab workshop

Five day hands-on technical workshop focused on network monitoring and management, network design considerations for research and education institutions, practical use of the perfSONAR Toolkit and sessions on software defined networking. The workshop will take place at Asian Institute of Technology's intERLab north of Bangkok, Thailand in Pathumthani.

Workshop Items

Workshop Goals

  • Train network engineering staff from TEIN connected countries and NOCs on how to design, build and monitor scalable and sustainable research and education networks.
  • Learn current best practices in designing and building hierarchical networks for high speed data transfers.
  • Practice installing and using the perfSONAR performance software toolkit to be able to deploy and use the tools after thew workshop.
  • Learn best practices and methodology to monitor and manage networks for improved performance and security.
  • Discuss Software Defined Networking to demystify how it works and understand potential use in real world situations
  • Strengthen the human network of the research and education community in developing national and regional cyberinfrastructure.

Requirements

  • Some Linux/UNIX experience
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP protocols and layer 2 and layer 3 network basics

Recommended Software

  • PuTTY for Windows (SSH)
  • Linux/UNIX and Mac OS already have SSH installed.
  • VirtualBox for Mac OS X: DMG (116MB)
  • VirtualBox for Windows: EXE (111MB)
