Program description

Workshop Goals

  • Train network/system engineering ICT technical team from member institutions on how to design, build and secure scalable and sustainable campus networks
  • Learn current best practices in designing and building hierarchical networks using layer 2 switches and layer 3 routers, including where to route and where to switch in campus networks
  • Learn best practices and methodology for securing campus networks, including:
    • Proper monitoring
    • Proper services build-out
    • Routing, switching and access control techniques with security in mind
  • Strengthen the TERNET technical community (human network) in developing TERNET's cyberinfrastructure


  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP protocols
  • Basic Linux/UNIX command line experience
  • Laptop with wireless capabilities
