# Lab: start using a password manager # ## Objective *A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step — Laozi* ## Steps 1. Choose a password manager 2. Set a strong passphrase 3. Change all your passwords ## Choose a password manager For this lab we recommend [KeePassXC](https://keepassxc.org/). At the time of this workshop, KeePassXC is a widely used and recommended free and open source password manager in good standing. As with all security advice: this may no longer be the case by the time you read this. Use your best judgement. Depending on your needs, KeePassXC may or may not be the best choice. You have to start somewhere though. ## How to start using a password manager? - Clear all cookies in your browser (careful: may be destructive) - Go about your day as usual - Every time you enter a password: save it in the password manager - Change the password - Maybe need to exercise the password reset function - Does it work? - Continue until you run out of passwords - This can take months (or years) **START DOING THIS TODAY!** ## Bonus exercise Convince your mum to use a password manager. :)
