From: bill@soros.mk (Bill Eldridge) To: sghuter@psg.com (Steven Huter) Date: Wed, 31 May 95 07:23:27 +0100 I write to you for an update on the situation in Albania. What is the > current state of the network? I have recently received some of the Albnet > updates, but am wondering if you can provide any additional information. Currently there is no connection to Albania. Some people dial to Italy to get mail, but that's hardly a wonderful solution. I'll be trying to arrange a connection this summer there, so the test of my success will be actual e-mail into and out of Tirana. This is under an umbrella NGO/University organizing group that's been meeting for some time. Aside from the issue of satellite connections, there's also the issue of poor internal telecommunications to deal with. mike_holman@maf.org is working in Albania and gets his e-mail out of New York (he's got an internal packet radio e-mail setup working). Since I don't currently have e-mail for Albania (and leave in about 2 weeks), that will be a good contact for later info. Bill
