I ->would also appreciate any information you can provide about computer ->networking developments in Bolivia in general that we can make publicly ->available in the database. Sorry Steve for taking so long!! For our company (I.C.S. Data Systems / CyberSpace ) it is very busy right now! Most people down here say they know every thing about computers and when you talk with them ,only about 5% really know what you are talking about. So we are tring to educate as well as expand the use of the I-Net down here. Right now our company has only a UUCP connetion through IDS in Rhoda Island. We choose them because of there service and knoweldge. When calling all over the united states for a UUCP connection it seemed like IDS was the only one who really wanted to provide service. When you call half way around the world and people are not in there office, Not able to talk with me and I have to call back 3 or 4 times to get the same line, or only get a answering machine. I figured that IDS was the provider to go with. I can tell they are over loaded with work everytime I call but they always try and help the best they can. We are hoping to get a full connection in about 3 months (this is a pray of faith) It looks more like a year the way things are going! But who knows! Bolivia at present has only two internet host to allow the public access to the internet. One has been provided funds by the world bank for the past 4 years to get connectioned to the states. I wish to encourage them with there efforts but they seem to be on a pride type of venture. A little history about Bolivia in the way of computers. Most will right up a plan and say they know what is going on. When they get the contract they use the clients money and time as a learning experince for what they have told others they already know. One of the nations largest banks is running on a pirited copy of paradox for DOS,over a WAN which it was never designed to do in a distributed database layout. It is a mess and everyone was telling me this is what they are using in the states! ( YES RIGHT! ) I quit the same day the hired me! This is only an example of some of the problems with the I-net expanding down here. In Two weeks we will have a BBS in Cochabamba ( one of Bolivias three largest cities) so we can get that city started on the I-net, and then in a month we hope to have Santa Cruz on-line by then. At this point we will have the three largest cities connected to the I-net through e-mail. And then the next step is for full I-net. I have traveld the world over a few times Steve and I believe if we give the people the ability to learn and grow by learning from others who have more knoweldge then they presently do everyone wins!!! If it where not for those who helped me learn I wouldnt be here to help open the doors for those in this country to learn. It is a up hill battle right now but when we get to the top I can just imagen the view here!!! And will be because of people like yourself Steve and others who work on the Net. Thanks for reading all the bad english! I hope this helps! If you need more info on the tech side of things please send another e-mail and I will hit the nity grity about everthing here. Please fell free to include my e -mail address in your info for other to contact. We speak English, French, Spanish, German, Russian on staff here so we can just about talk with any body who writes. P.S. Please fell free to use any or all of this message for what you need. Hope to talk with you more later. And if you have any suggestions for me please send them along becuase I'm always open to learn and grow from other suggestions and help. Bye for know!! I.C.S.
