Because of the increase in demand and the request for use of the other Internet tools we are pursuing private sponsorship of a lease line that will give us the necessary access to the Internet. The following are major goals of the system: 1. To install a lease line which will be subsidized by local companies. 2. To spearhead the implementation of a National network to be used as a research medium for all of the schools in the Bahamas. 3. To create a Bahamian Database of all articles produced in the Bahamas and relative to the Bahamas. Also to have a news archive of all local papers, communications from The Cabinet, the Bahamas Handbook, etc. 4. To make it possible for all high schools in the Bahamas (through a dial up system) to be able to access the host here in Nassau. 5. To foster the ability to form local forums that are relevant to today's issues e.g., crime in society, the reintroduction of capital punishment, etc. 6. To store information on the various local exams e.g., BJC, GCE, BGCSE, etc Sample questions may be stored on the system. 7. In this phase we should like to have all computer labs at the college to be accessible to students. 8. To establish a local server where files on information on the Internet can be stored and retrieved locally example, Navigating the Internet, Frequently Asked Questions by New Users, Frequently Asked Questions by Experience Net Users, Network Tools and Resources etc. The College's major role will be that of trainer and the provision of information services. We shall provide the following training options: 1. Self paced user education courses in the selection and use of information tools. 2. Form an association with EDUCATE (End User Courses in Information Access through Communication Technology) project that provides the following: a. Training the Trainers" i.e. training librarians, who are use to organizing ad evaluating information sources, how to teach users of these sources. It is important for the user to be aware of and learn to use appropriate resources and to critically evaluate the information sources and tools that are available. 3. Provide research assistance to the various local and international agencies via our Research department 4. Conduct studies for the various local and international agencies via our Research department Should you require further information please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely, Barbara C.
