Quite a number of national and cooperation intitutions have applied for patnership. The RIO network in Cote d'Ivoire (RIO-CI) is composed of a main server with is located at the ORSTOM center in abidjan. This machine is called "abidjan" (by the name of the economic capital of Cote d'Ivoire). It is also the heart of the ORSTOM computer device in this country. The RIO-CI's partners. They are numerous and varied. Among them, there are research institutes and cooperation organizations located on several work stations. They are : The "Abidjan" site: The local RIO server is located at the ORSTOM center. About 20 daily users come to collect their mail. The university reseacher teachers are also on this site. The Centre de Recherches Oceanologique (CRO) site It is the most important site in terms of RIO users. It is also the first RIO-CI partner. That center is composed of researchers in the following fields: oceanology, aquatic ecology, physical geology and aquaculture. The "Adiopo" site Short for the Adiopodoume village name (the village in which the site is located). That is where the hydrology research centre is based. It is composed of 6 RIO users. The bouake and bouake2 sites Those centres are settled in the second town of Cote d'Ivoire. Those sites are oriented towards 5 broad lines of research: trypanosomiasis, molecular biology, paludism and biological experiments. The Centre Suisse de Recherches Scientifiques (CSRS) site It is composed of 3 RIO users. The activities of that center are based on 3 poles: biology - geology - agronomy and botany. The CIRAD site It has one permanent user and a few occasional ones who can receive there they messages during they assignment in Cote d'Ivoire. The "Bassam" site It has 4 RIO users and does research into social sciences The American Cultural Center (CCA) It has only one reference RIO user but it allows the library subscribers to have access to all the possibilites available through the RIO. The sites to be connected Those centers will benefit soon from the RIO possibilites once the technical problems will be sorted out (no telephone installed, no modem etc... . They are - CIRES (Centre Ivoirien de Recherches Economiques et sociales) - CIRAD Bouake - INSET (Institut National Superieur Enseignement) Yamoussoukro The future RIO sites Studies about the connection to the network for these are under way : - Societe des eaux - region wallonne - Centre de Promotion des Investissements en Cote d'Ivoire(CEPICI) - Centre de Cooperation Iternationale en Sante et Developpement (CCISD) Extension projects According to the results and the meetings of the last 6 months in 1994, we can assert that the success of the RIO-CI will continue to grow significantly in 1995.
