Are there any major new links to China - or > planned new links to report on? > Thank you in advance, > Steven Huter Earlier this year representatives from IHEP in Beijing and the KEK National Laboratory for High Energy Physics in Tsukuba, Japan met and decided that they would like a network link between IHEP and KEK. IHEP decided also that they did not want two international network links (for financial reasons, I believe), so they told us that they wanted to shut down the SLAC-IHEP link as soon as the KEK-IHEP link was ready. The change-over happened towards the end of July 1994. Since then, U.S. access to IHEP has been via KEK. There is a 256 Kb link from NASA/Ames to KEK and a 64 Kb link from KEK to IHEP. Access to IHEP seems a little slower now, but it is expected to improve when the KEK-IHEP link is converted to fiber in the near future. Please let me know if you want any more information.
