IHEP at Beijing Changed its Network Link ............................. 23 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Source: IHEP, Beijing, July 27 1994 By: Rongsheng Xu BEIJING - IHEP(Institute of High Energy Physics, Beijing) - SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center) network link, the first 64K bps Internet line of China, has been changed to the link of IHEP-KEK-Internet. KEK is the Japanese National Institute of High Energy Physics in Tsukuba near Tokyo. This change is made by the coordinations of IHEP, SLAC and KEK for further collaboration in High Energy Physics and other scientific research. ITJ (International Telecommunication Japan) provides current satelite 64K bps channal which will be futher replaced by terrestial optical fiber of of China-Japan-USA. IHEP networking group with the experts at Computing Center of KEK, as well as SLAC networking team and ESnet engineers spent many efforts last week to establish this new line. Since it will be completely optical fiber link, the transmission capability could be easier upgraded to higher one in the near future. On Aug. 2nd, IHEP and KEK will have an openning new network seremony, computers on both sides, Beijing and Tsukuba, will run Mosaic for each WWW Home Page at the same time and play multimedia with "talk", "phone", etc. We would express deeply appreciation to all these people, especially to the networking team at SLAC, who made great contributions for leading to the Internet link to IHEP/China.
