Questions about tanet-www may be directed to: joe@peacock.tnjc.edu.tw ___ ___ ___ _From: Nelson Chin, cyl@ifcss.org The GB fonts that are used in Mosaic is now officially distributed with X11R6. The same fonts are available seperately through anonymous ftp from ifcss.org:/software/fonts/gb/bdf/ or cnd.org:/pub/software/fonts/gb/bdf. The file name is Mosaic-110n.gb16st.bdf. It would be nice if the IHEP homepage in Beijing can hold a few pages with GB code, since they're in China. I'll be working on an internship throughout the Summer with the Chinese Internet Interface Project (CIIP), and hopefully we can come up with an environment/health www/gopher database geared towards China's development for IHEP's homepage or any other interested sites in China. ___ ___ ___ _From: Yuan Jian, jiang@ifcss.org The latest version of Chinese Gopher Clients are under: ftp.cis.nctu.edu.tw:/CIS/gopher software: gopher2.014c version : 2.0.14 function: A Chinese localized gopher client capable of 8-bit BIG5 Chinese string search on IBM AIX, SUN OS, and any other machines. Xu, jxu@leka.hut.fi Forwarded by: Cindy Zheng, zhengc@cnd.org Commercial Times, 24 May 1994, p.14:- In Taiwan, the Ministry of Education has recently approved the "network connectionscheme" in 6 municipalities and counties. Under the scheme, computer networks of various primary and secondary schools in Kaohsiung municipality, Tainan municipality, Hsinchu municipality, Taichung county, Taipei county and Hsinchu county will be linked up to the "TANET" which will enable various applications such as "BBS", "E-Mail", "FTP", etc. The ministry would also subsidise about NTD 1 mn to each county or municipality for the connection of computer networks. According to officials from the Ministry of Education, the plan to connect computer networks with the "TANET" in fact started in Kaohsiung's schools one year ago. About 40 secondary and primary schools so far have linked their computer networks to the "BBS" of Kaohsiung Education Administration, enabling schools, the administration and students to communicate or transmit documents directly via the "BBS" network. "TANET" is a computer network established jointly by various major universities and the Education Ministry's Computer Centre in a research began in July 1990. The network is aimed to support various educational activities launched by schools and research institutions on the island. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.
