The distribution list is attached. I believe you all have previously received a copy of the official announcement of the launching of the Cape Verdean-American/Republic of Cape Verde Home Page (Unofficial) on the Web. In conjuction with this activity, I and members of the Cape Verdean-American community wish to investigate and provide support for the establishment and enhancement of Cape Verde Internet connectivity, as well as promoting the awareness of the Internet, and its utilization and application, by Cape Verdeans worldwide. We have been in contact with Mario Fonseca of the newly-established Data Communications branch of Cape Verde Telecomm in this regard. He has expressed their desire to collaborate. There are a number of organizations with an interest in the establishment of CV Internet capability/connectivity. These include the Austrian aid agency Cooperacao Austriaca a Swedish development agency, the USAIdddddded Sustainable Agriculture and Natural Resource Management Collaborative Research Support Program (SANREM CRSP), PADIS/CABECA, and AT&T. These are the ones I know or have heard about. I'm sure there are others. At the very least, I would like to contribute to making these different organizations aware of the existence of each other and the possibility of cooperation/collaboration. People involved with a number of these activities will be going to Cape Verde over the next few months. There is the possibility that a meeting in Cape Verde could be arranged to discuss the matter of CV Internet connectivity and possible cooperative effort. For the moment I am simply raising the possibility, and trying to stimulate the exchange of ideas and opinions on this topic. I will follow this message with a copy of one from Mr. Jorg Schulz-Rojahn, one of the people interested in Cape Verde Internet connectivity. A copy of this message will be fax'ed to Mr. Mario Fonseca of CV telecomm. Richard Leary rleary@umassd.edu (401) 841-4581 fax: 841-2130 Distribution List: Jorg P. Schulz-Rojahn, Ph.D., M.Sc.
