The first operation was to disseminate information to a great number of academic and research institutions about Internet services and how to use this services trough the CERIST. A free access to use the mail service was available during 1994. Since 1995, The CERIST has begun to be an Internet Service Provider. We have started with terminal dialup access for use full internet services. At the end of this year we have registered about 1500 users. Currently, we have added the SLIP/PPP dialup access. In 1996, we have initiated the build of the CERIST backbone. At June a new Internet node in the east of Algeria "Setif" has been setup. At December another Internet node in the west of Algeria "Oran" has been also setup. So, we will finalize the necessary dialup access to permit regional access for users residing in this regions. For 1997, we plan to increase the bandwidth for International connection to Internet. We will start with a 64K and upgrade to 128/256 K during the year. In parallel, we propose also the full connectivity services to Internet for the institutions. We propose also the development of their web servers which are located at CERIST node until they belong directly connected to Internet. The Web server at CERIST site is http://www.cerist.dz So, please visit it and give us your comments. A. El-Maouhab
