From: ELMAOUHAB@IST.CERIST.DZ To: randy@psg.com Date: Mon, 05 Jun 1995 10:02:50 +0000 (GMT) Hello Randy, I apologize for the delay to respond. We have still sometimes disconnection, the line isn't reliable at 100%. About, what we are doing, I can tell you that we aren't so much advanced. Our networks (LANs CERIST) are working well. The connection with Internet is working well, but we have sometimes line disconnection. The bandwith of the international line is still at 9600. We have submitted to our PTT, a request to upgrade the speed to 64 K with another leased line. This leased line will be established with Ebone in Europe at Paris node. But we haven't receive yet a positive response from our PTT. Recently, our PTT have established an X75 connection between Dz-Pac (Algerian X25) and Transpac (French X25), so they suggested us to use this connection. Economically this solution isn't adapted to our needs, so we are at waiting state. About the TLD DZ, the situation is the same. The primary domain name is still at eunet and the Algerian Unix Association hasn't established yet a synchronous connection with Internet. Recently, we have submitted a request to become a local-IR with RIPE. Our request has been accepted, so we can start the cooperative works with RIPE. For the national academic network, we will start this year with two or three institutions and which can become a full Internet node. Like you see, the evolution is going slowly. With best regards, Aouaouche
