The e-mail connection here in Addis is very well developed eventhough we are still crusing on FidoNet. The local hub which is more reliable and busy (over 300 polls to the hub everyday) with estimated users of 1700 and 285 installed sites. We are receiving about 17 calls realted to new setup everyday. The Ethiopian Science and Technolgy Commission is extending links to more sites (36 unconnected colleges and teaching schools in the country side and over 43 government sectoral research and other offices). The main university in Addis Ababa established a university wide networking committee with the Dean for faculty of Engineering as a chair man. The President and the Academic Vice Presidents are supporting the university wide high speed network. We are eaxpanding connectivity and with a little while we are moving to uucp link in the academic sector. The university houses and links to over 20 colleges and faculties. The PADIS node was running a Fido/uucp gateway sometime ago which was disconnected from IGC due to some local administartive problems. We would like to be up and running both UUCP and FIDO using that experinece. We are hoping to move quickly to a full TCP/IP connection. In a way we may be able to help the contry from being poorest to at least be poor:-) Any assitance is appreciated to few guys making differnce in Ethiopia. Lishan
