From: Dr Nii Quaynor To: pknight@worldbank.org, landweber@cs.wisc.edu Date: Sun, 26 Mar 1995 12:18:00 EST This is a short note to give additional information on the connectivity in use in Ghana. We have had TCP/IP connection for over a year but we needed to wait for the STP project of Ghana P&T to make additional dial-in lines available to subscribers. Since january, 1995, we have received 10 dial-in line which we use for that purpose. We presently connect with a dial-up IDD every hour and are expecting the installation of a dedicated lease line in April. We are able to do 9600 but we know when we colocate to P&T we will be able to do 19.2Kbps. We know that since on a similar project S.W.F.I.T network for which we are the administrators/implementers our equipment is colocated at P&T and we are enjoying 19.2. Since we are in the early stages of the project, network management is easiest at our premises. The hub comprises an assortment of unix systems connected by an IP router. Some of these systems are 2 SUN systems as domain name server and local ftp server, DEC Ultrix, DEC Alpha for user accounts. We presently have 40 users and its growing. The users are mostly NGO and international corporations/organizations.
