From: gus@gibnet.gi Date: Wed, 19 Feb 1997 00:00:00 > From July to Dec we just had a 28800 modem on a normal voice line, and due to overseas telephone rates locally being so expensive, we could only get email & some news groups thru uucp. During this time as providing Internet in Gib required formation of a company, Danny was unable to join in the venture due to his present employment, he sold his share and I introduced Jimmy Imossi "Our PR Officer - jimmy@gibnet.gi - :)))" as my new partner. On 1 Jan 96 our web site containing info on Gibraltar, was left on line on the Internet. On 15 Jan 96 we opened our Internet service locally. On 22 Jan 96 we started an exhibition on Internet this will be open untill Friday. We have been the first ISP to start up in Gibraltar and at present we are the only ones providing Internet Access. Gibraltar is quite behind generally in terms of networking and especialy Internet knowhow. Due to limited local resources it is very difficult to acquire information and experience on computer related matters, unless by ordering books from the UK.:( So as you can see we have been very busy setting everything up.:-) Anyway thats all I have time for right now. :-( But I will try to send more info on networking in Gibraltar. -- _ (_)us // gus@gibnet.gi http://www.gibnet.gi _) http://www.gibraltar.gi
