See http://www.sdnp.org.gy/netdir.html > Is there a topology map of the national network ? The topology is simple at present. All ISPs have a leased line from one router at GTT except for INet which has its own international link by VSAT. There are no other interconnections that I know of. > What do you see as the prospects for Internet growth in Guyana; what would > help it, and what are currently the major obstacles? The main limitation at present is the monopoly of GT&T and the very high price of leased lines. This is expected to change soon due to two major IDB projects taking place: the Telecoms Reform Project and the ICT project. The first is intended to remove the monopoly and restructure the sector. The second is intended to improve connectivity across the country but depends on the monopoly going before this can happen. The timetable depends on how long GT&T can hold out. Details of ICT project: http://www.iadb.org/EXR/doc98/pro/uGY0066.pdf Another issue is that Govt has no approved national IT policy. It is expected that the projects will help to address this in due course by setting up an IT unit.
