From: mingfung@cuhk.hk (kinming) Date: Sat, 04 Mar 95 05:05:47 GMT The HK Police (Commericial Crime Bureau) raided 7 network service providers yesterday, taking computer equipment and shutting down operation. According to the South China Moring Post, the "crime" is on whether these providers have a special telecommunications license for providing these data services to the public. Currently, only HK Supernet is in operation, and not raided. They have that PNETS license. Global Link has the license, but their international link is not up yet. HK Linkage Online has the international link, but not the license, which is being applied for. HKIGS, which was raided, supply international bandwidth to many other secondary carriers. All of them are offline now, and many of their equipment were taken by the CCB for evidence. Lately many companies are starting up to provide Internet access. At least 4~5 of them intend to have their own direct international link. --kin #==#== / ==#=i __ #===# kinming fung #==#== / ===#=|= # # #___# Datacommunications & Networking Section #==#== / # ==7 ==#=| #==# # # Computer Services Center / L==#====7 # / ==#== #__# #---# Chinese Univesity of Hongkong / / # = ==#== / # mingfung@cuhk.hk / # =/ ======/ / # 852/2609-8851 voice, 2603-5001 FAX
