External connectivity is still a monopoly of the state telco till 2004. Telkom Kenya, through Jambonet, accounts for 100% of the outgoing international bandwidth and about 80% of the total incoming international Internet bandwidth. As of July 2002, the total bandwidth was 20.5 Mbps outgoing and 56.5 Mbps incoming. Many of the larger ISPs have own downlinks, which is not a monopoly, hence the asymmetry. >2)Do you know about any links to information about the academic >networking development? There is an academic network supported by the Leland Initiative and EDDI. The URL is www.kenet.org. The contact person is Victor Kyalo (vkyalo@netwise-associates.co.ke or vkyalo@uonbi.ac.ke). You may also contact Meoli Kashorda at meoli@usiu.ac.ke). "Juma Okech"
