From: Ben Parker To: Multiple recipients of East African Internet Association Date: Wed, 24 Apr 1996 13:41:41 +0300 (GMT+0300) The following statement was printed in a Kenyan Newspaper on 12 April 1996. Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation USE OF PRIVATE LEASED CIRCUITS It has been brought to our attention that some companies who have leased circuits from Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation are using the circuits for the provision of internet services to members of the public. We wish to inform the general public at large that the provision of telecommunication services, internet services included, to the public can only be undertaken after due registration and licensing by the Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation in accordance with the provisions of CAP 411 of the Laws of Kenya. Currently KPTC is in the process of formulating a framework for the registration and licensing of telecommunications service providers and as soon as the work is completed, all interested parties will be asked to submit their application for registration. Meanwhile, therefore, it is illegal to provide any of the telecommunications services on resale basis prior to being licensed by Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation. ENDS
