From: amine@casa.mena.org (Amine Mounir Alaoui) To: sghuter@nsrc.org (Steven Huter) Date: Wed, 21 Aug 1996 15:57:49 GMT Concerning topology: There are 2 links to Morocco: One, private, is 64 Kbs and links the Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane to France (EUnet) The second, 128 Kbs, is managed by the local PTT and goes to the US (MCI) Rabat and Casablanca are the home of the main private Internet service providers and as such, the connectivity is OK there. For the rest of the country, there are several ISP under installation. The main problem is the quality of telephone lines which does not allow easy dial up access everywhere. Very few sites are connected through leased lines (mainly at 64 Kbs), I think that today, maybe 10 to 20 sites are up and running. The cost of connection is about US$ 1500 per month for a 64K line (including the cost of the line) Dial up connection goes from US$20 to 150 depending on the service provider and the service needed. Tell me if you need more details, I can check here.
