From: enkhbat@magicnet.mn To: sghuter@psg.com Date: Wed, 23 Aug 95 14:38:23 -8 IS>What are the recent developments in Mongolia since you've returned IS>home? If you have any formal papers or reports about networking in MN IS>that you could make publicly available, we would appreciate that. If IS>not, a brief technical description of your link/system would be IS>helpful. We prepared two reports about the MagicNet in February and July 1995 as part of PAN ASIA project. PAN ASIA project sponsored by IDRC (Canada). You can find our report in IDRC's Web in Singapore. Please contact to Mss.Maria Ng Lee Hoon for IDRC's Web URL. You can reach her MARIANGLEEHOON@IDRC.ORG.SG. Current technical status of MagicNet. ---------------------------------------------------- MAGIC means "Mongolian Access to Global Information and Communications". The MagicNet's central node is Netware 3.12 LAN where connected: 1. PCmail or dial-up/e-mail only server (8-line,2400-9600bps,DX2/66); 2. 16-line online Magic BBS (up to 14200 bps, 90MHZ Pentium, 2.4 GB); 3. Fax server which connected to SITA X.25 Worldwide Network; 4. Waffle DOS Gateway for dial-up Internet (e-mail and news) connection. Also we have two PCmail servers in other sites. More than 450 subscribers in the network. Now we are working to implement our X.25 network (as part of MagicNet) to all other 20 provincies of Mongolia. The X.25 network consists of two 32-port Switches in Ulaanbaatar city and 8-16 port PAD/Switches in each province center. The Magic BBS which can service up to 256 on-line users simultaneously will be connected to the X.25 network. Also, as you know, we have working to have full Internet connection. Here very important help from NSF, Mr. Steve Goldstein. IDRC sponsored us to purchase Sun Netra server and some other equipments. I hope we can have full Internet access in 1995. Technical plan is to have 128 Kbps direct link to USA using private VSATstation at DataCom. Here we are contacting to PanAmSat and Sprint Corporations. * Best wishes, Enkhbat D ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Note: "The information about impending connection via PanAmSat to Sprint in U.S. is tentative, though the action is being pursued vigorously."
