The Internet is accessible to a very small number of individuals and businesses due to it's high price. Telecom Plus and DCL have only recently launched ADSL and SDSL connections that might allow more business to get online. However, the prices at Rs3000 and Rs 4900 remain too expensive for individuals. The actual bandwidth available is also an issue. The Telecom industry will be de-regularised by January next year. This is a welcome development and should lead to a more vibrant telecommunications sector. It should hopefully lead to more licenses being allocated and lower interconnection prices. >2)Please list all of the ISPs with external connectivity in the >country with the information in the following format. ISP in MU Link Type Bandwidth Upstream ISP POP location(s) ========= =========== ============= ================ =============== Telecom Plus MT(SAFE Cable) 30Mbps France Telecom Port Louis, Rose Hill, Floreal DCL MT(SAFE) 256kbps Do not know Port Louis >3) Please also list the URLs for each ISP, and the name and email >address for the appropriate contact for service. -Telecom Plus : www.telecomplus.net, Jhonny Lim, jlim@intnet.mu -DCL: www.smartnet.mu, Ganesh Ramalingum, ganesh7@intnet.mu >4)Do you have any wireless technology deployed in your network, either >LAN or WAN ? (If so, please describe.) Yes, there are point-to-multipoint wireless WANs and several point-to-point wireless connections in use on the island. Frequency licensing is regulated under the Information and Communication Technology Act and hopefully the new Chairman will make it's application more fluid and fair. Best regards, Zeimm Auladin
