From: Arvindnath Rosunee To: Steven Huter Date: Wed, 18 Dec 1996 13:19:39 +0400 Dear Steven, To give you an idea of our campus network, each building on campus has its own LAN segment based on HP Stackable Hubs. These hubs are then linked to a central switched ethernet backbone at our Computer Centre, using Fibre Optic cables. At the Computer centre we are using a Linux PC that acts a router for Internet access via Mauritius Telecom using an X.25 link. We currently have some 250 users scattered over 6 different buildings that have access to e-mail and WWW services. > o to where does UOM connect to the Internet, i.e., your backbone provider Our backbone provider is Telecom Plus which is a subsidiary of Mauritius Telecom. > o current bandwith capacity of the link(s), The current bandwidth capacity is 64 Kbps (IP over x.25) > o a description of the equipment/platform you're using for servers, > routers, etc. As I mentioned, we are using a 486PC with two Ethernet cards as a router. The OS is Linux. We are planning to get a Cisco by mid January 1997. Our DNS and Mail server is an HP7000 series workstation running HP UX. Our WEB server is a DEC Prioris machine running Windows NT 3.51. Our WEB proxy server is a 486PC loaded with Linux and running the SQUID application. > o and any additional information you can provide about other points of > connectivity to the Internet in Mauritius, i.e., the Telecom link Mauritius Telecom has got a 128k IP over HDLC link to France for providing Internet service to the country as a whole. They are planning to buy a new link with SPRINT.
