A week back, I got a message from our good friend Clement telling me that I have been accepted as a full member of the ANITEP. I am actually doing a French "Brevet de Technicien Superieur en Informatique de Gestion", the equivalence in English would be Management Information Systems. I also have an email connection via South Africa (Sangonet) - FIDO Network and run a local node on a non-profit basis. Please feel free to communicate either in French or English with me (as a matter of fact, I saw that we even have subscribers from France...). General Info on the Communication Infrastructure in MRU. -------------------------------------------------------- Mauritius is not yet connected to the Net, the main issue here is the connection charges that would be involved in setting up a lease line connection to SA (closest partner). Apart from myself, there is a commercial BBS (the one I am actually using, as a *test* site) that offers Internet mail access to its subscribers. On the Government part, there is the parastatal phone company, the Mauritius Telecom that offers: * X.25 Access * PAV (French Minitel system) * ISDN (Local network only) I can <safely> say that the phone network over the island is pretty good especially that we have just moved on digital exchanges. I believe that with the help of other members and setting up of a NAG, I would be able to help in the development of IT in Mauritius for a better society and also to be able to participate in the various ANITEP projects. I am very happy to have joined the group and hope that my presence can be of some help.
