In mozambique there is no academic network as such, basically each university has it's own connectivity to the internet. Being the Network admin for UEm university (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane) I can only give you our topology as such. The UEM network is made of a mix of fibre optics, UTP and wireless. The university has basically two major campuses, engineering campus and main campus, which have internally fibre optic links between all the main buildings in a flat network topology running at the moment at 100Mbps. Between these two campuses the connetion is through a wireless backbone setup all over the city in order to connect other campuses as well. All remaining campuses and Main administration building downtown are connected to the main campus via wireless network. The wireless network runs point to point links of 11Mbps in the backbone and has clients of 3Mbps attached to the several base stations (5 in total). There are more than 20 sites connected to this wireless network. > 2) Please describe the technical setup of the academic/research > network and the underlying technology. Please include the > applications currently supported. The network setup is as described above and uses mainly cisco routers for routing and for the wireless network it uses Alvarion radios (formerly known as Breezecom). This network is mainly for internet access as there are yet no major applications running on the network. There is now one library system being setup and should be available soon. > 3) How many institutions and users are currently connected to the > research network in Mozambique? In our University it is estimated that there are about 3000 - 3500 users connected to the network and there are some government institutions connected as well. > NATIONAL NETWORK: > ================ > 1) What is the total international bandwidth of Mozambique at this > time? I would estimate the total bandwidth in Mozambique at this time to be about 50Mbps in total but it could be slightly more. A more detailed study would have to be carried out to figure it out as some private companies also have their own connectivity directly to international operators. > 2)Please list the ISPs with external/international connectivity > currently operating in Mozambique with the information in the > following format.
