From: Joseph Charles Monahan To: randy@PSG.COM Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1993 17:48:09 -0500 (CDT) Randy, I got a hold of a list of African connectivity that you put together for a group of biologists working in Africa. Does this site in Mozambique appear in your info? I thought it might be of interest. Take care. Joe-Monahan@uiowa.edu From: "Americo F. Muchanga" To: Joseph Charles Monahan Subject: Re: Info Request Joe Thank you for receiveing a message form you. Firstly, I'd like to apologise myself for not being able to reply before now, this was due to the fact that -email was not flowing pretty well to this site. Anyway, I really, appreciated to have a mail from you. > To Whom, To Americo at the address as indicated at the bottom end PLA feel free to call me as Americo, it's friendly and simple. > I am a graduate student at the University of Iowa's Center for > Communication Studies. In turn, if > there is anything I can assist you with, please let me know. Let me give you a brief description of this site: Now I'm sitting in front of an IBM/AT clone running an Unix like operating system, 386bsd, at the Center for Informatica of Eduardo Mondlane University Maputo Mozambique. The Center for Informatica is located at University Campus in Maputo, as U know Mozambique is a southest southern Africa country that was devasted by a civil war during the past 10 + 15 years (10 for Independence and 15 of civil war) Anyway Mozambique isn't more that a charming beautiful tropical jungle with pretty and lovely beaches. That's all. If news flow well then you may know that besides the war, Mozambique has suffered all the adversities that can happen to a poor country, like Mozambique, therefore drought, floods, malaria, AIDS, and all other stuffs, are our quotidian life. > By the way, Prof. Joe Ascroft from the U. of Iowa will be in > Southern Africa through May and June to continue his work with > agricultural extension and development support centers. Can we send him > e-mail when he is in Mozambique? Just wondering. This will be a pleasure for us, pls frowar my address to him, so he can contact us when he arrives here in Maputo. Look you don't have to ask if he can use this system or NOT because, our policy here is: the system is useful only if there's someone who is using it. Joe, I'm sorry, I've to quit for a short meeting, I'll send you another message with more details about communications between US and Mozambique. I'll include also some info, regarding the types of comm we're using here as well as the development here in Moz. and CIUEM.
