From: paul@tantrum.csir.co.za (Paul Nash) To: randy@psg.com (Randy Bush) Date: Mon, 31 Aug 92 11:32:11 SAST Randy I have probably answered this already, but in case not ... > I have become more interested in the question of how to contact Mozambique. > Can you further inform me? Thanks. I have a dial-up link from frcs to ugccoop in Nampula, northen Mozambique. ugccoop is one of Doug's ISIS nodes, and is a PC running Distnet (a waffle or UUPC clone). The machine is used by the Union Generale d'Cooperatives for communications to US/Canadian famine relief agencies. Basically, dial-up works provided you have a TB. V.22bis has great difficulty getting a carrier, and can't hold a connection for longer than 20 seconds (if that). TB throughput to Nampula is about 300 cps, and generally every second or third attempt actually connects. Voice communication is right out, unless you like shouting into white noise. Faxen usually give up after about 20 scan lines. Their phones are almost as bad as Angola's are reputed to be :-). paul -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Paul Nash (voice) +27-12-8413050 paul@tantrum.csir.co.za (fax) +27-12-8414109
