P.O. Box 2894 El Dorado Panama Rep. of Panama. Country: Panama Rep. of Panama Code: 507 Contact person:Julio A. Lezcano Voice: 63-8000 ext 198 Fax: 64-9149 E-mail: jlezcano@ns.pa Host/Node name:ns Urls : http://utp.ac.pa The Panamanian Academic National Network is an organization that works in benefit of the higher education in the country and this is integrated now by 3 of the higher universities in the country, right now we are working in the integration of more universities (10 more), that are making the financial efforts to buy their communications equipments (routers, modems, Name server and digital links). In terms of our connection topology, we have an Analog Microwave link , betwen Panama and Costa Rica, this is a ridiculous link at 19.2 kbps, it function very slowly and this is one of the reasons because now, we now we are working in our own satellite link at 128 kbps that will bring a better bandwith for our needs, maybe for the next 2 years. Our network is growing very fast, and probably during the next months we will be making new connections to other instituitions. We are using Cisco Routers and Name servers based on Solaris, AIX, Linux basically. Our institution, Technological University of Panama is bringing the remote service to all their users with dial up connections, they can read their e-mail's from their houses or from the whole the country. We are testing the use of ppp and slip for remote access, and we would like to implement the use of "PPP" and bring it to our users. Our local links to the PTT is at 64 kbps and we have installed in the PTT a Cisco 4000 with 6 serials ports, in the other points we have cisco 2000 with 1 serial port and 1 ethernet interface. Right now also, we are working in the National BAckbone, that include the integration of all the provincias (states in the U.S.) and we would like to establish points of prescence in on of this provincias. Maybe this Backbone will have a bandwith of 64 kbps initially. I don't know if this is enough for you, if you need more details, please let me know that with pleaseure i will answer yours questions. Excusse my english is not very good. Nice to meet you sinceraly, ///////////////////////////////////////////// Julio A.
