If you have any papers or reports that you could make >publicly available, that would be great. If not, a brief technical >description of your node/link and user base would be helpful. Currently we provide email only service using a combination of MSMAIL and uucp. This is transferred 3 times daily with the University of HAwaii in Honolulu using the PEACESAT satellite system. As PEACESAT is a free to air community service broadcast medium, its free-to-air nature means that this service can only be made available to non-profit organisations in Honiara. Currently this comprises serveral schools and research institutions in addition to FFA. We have also installed email connectivity to Fiji, Vanuatu and (soon) Kiribati using MsMail Post Offices installed in Fisheries departments in these countries which gateway through Honiara onto the net. Both Solomon Telekom and FFA are currently looking at several options to provide a full IP link, either via a joint venture to exploit a leased line to Australia, or by using the PEACESAT improved hub services which are scheduled to come on line at the end of the year. >Last of all, could you please complete the following for the database of >contacts: Date: 15/8/95 Organization: Forum Fisheries Agency Address: PO Box 629 Honiara, Country: Solomon Islands Code: Contact Person: Al Blake Voice: 677 21124 Fax: 677 23995 E-mail: alb@ffa.gov.sb Host/Node Name: bigeye.ffa.gov.sb URLs: none Notes: Currently only email (uucp) service and limited time ftp services available.
