Huter Subject: Re: Sierra Leone Internet providers Steve, It seems that all ISPs in Sierra Leone buy connect through a single sat link at Sierratel. There are four ISPs, that I know of: 1) Sierratel - dialup only (I don't know if they actually sell access) 2) Securicom - dialup only, but planning to offer wireless access 3) AITH - dialup only 4) Datatel - dialup and wireless (Orinoco) It seems that all of the dialup access numbers terminate at Sierratel itself, and I think they all use the sierratel.sl mail server. It may be that the ISPs simply sell access on behalf of Sierratel, but I'm not sure. The techs at Datatel tell me that they will be taking over the management of servers and the links at Sierratel. They also said that the link will be 1.5 Mbps next week (currently it is 512kbps). As far as I know, all of the ISPs have Internet cafes (except Sierratel), and there are a number of small cafes that use a shared dialup line through one of the ISPs. The dialup access is very slow, to almost unusable in the middle of the day. The current wireless has a functional bankwidth of 12 to 50 kbps (the 50 was an unsual event) Greg Greg Kintz
