Huter Cc: Al Blake Subject: Re: email access in Tokelau Dear Steven, The e-mail project didn't work out as hoped and was abandoned as far as Teletok is concerned. Teletok is trying to develop an e-mail system of its own, the operational method is similar to the earlier proposal. I know they have done some tests but I don't think a system is in operation yet. The man to talk to about this would be Tino Vitale the general manager. I am to go to Tokelau next month to install equipment for Teletok to use the Intelsat DAMA satellite communications system. Once this is operational it could mean improved e-mail transmission as this system meets the ITU standards V32 bis for sending data at 14.4kbs and V42 bis for data compression. The existing satellite transmission service out of Tokelau does not. However, finding the optimum hardware and operating system for an e-mail service might take a bit of experimentation.
