From: Gabriel Sere To: sghuter@nsrc.org Date: Mon, 23 Dec 1996 11:33:21 -0300 Hello Steve and Randy, >1) A brief technical description of the current network .uy === The top level domain for Uruguay (.uy) is administered by the University through their service SECIU, which provides connectivity to the academic and non profit organizations. There is not a University campus here, we have several university dependences around the country instead. Most of them in Montevideo. You can write to teccom@seciu.uy for more info. The responsible of this service is Ida Holz and her e-mail is holz@seciu.uy. (http://www.seciu.edu.uy) .com.uy ======= The main Internet Access Provider here is ANTEL thorough their service called ADINET. ANTEL is the Uruguayan PTT who has the monopoly of the telecommunications in Uruguay. It's a public company. They provide just PPP/SLIP connectivity and e-mail via POP to single users and digital leased lines to companies and private institutions. ADINET is the administrator of the domain com.uy by an agreement between ANTEL and SECIU. You can reach ADINET via email to root@adinet.com.uy. (http://www.adinet.com.uy) .org.uy and .gub.uy =================== Those domains are administered basically by SECIU, but some of them are connected to ADINET. There are not net.uy domain in Uruguay and unfortunately the University seems to not want to open it. Private IAPs and ISPs ===================== There are four private IAPs. The main one is Chasque (http://www.chasque.apc.org) with more than 2000 users. Others are Netgate (http://www.netgate.comintur.com.uy), Compuservice (http://www.cs.com.uy) and MultiRed (http://www.multi.com.uy). There are few ISPs which are not providing connectivity but just services (web hosting, email...). >2) A brief technical description of the equipment/platform you are using >for your servers, routers, etc. Main Server Router Main Link to Secondary ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Seciu Sun/SunOs 4.1 CS4000 Adinet: 256K Sprint/USA: 64K Adinet Sun/SunOs 4.1 CS4500 MCI/USA: 2MB Sprint/USA: 128K Chasque Sun/SunOs 4.1 CS2511 Adinet: 128K Netgate Silicon/Irix CS1005 Adinet: 64K Compuservice RS6000/Aix CS1005 Adinet: 64K MultiRed Pentium/Win NT Cs1005 Adinet: 64K Adinet gives their customers Cisco Routers (1005 mainly). >3) Information about pricing/costs Access costs vary from $1/hour to $4/hour for ppp/slip access (Chasque give free access from 0 to 7am to their users). Adinet sells 64K leased lines at two different rates: A) to IAPs: $ 4500/monthly plus tax (23%) B) to others: $ 1500/monthly plus tax (23%) Hope you'll find this information useful. Best wishes, Gabriel.
