Uninet (the South African Research and Academic Network) has committed to a 2Mbps line into The Internet Solution to be used for international traffic only. Says David Frankel, joint MD of The Internet Solution, "Uninet will lease a 2Mbps line of which 1.2Mbps will initially be routed internationally via our guaranteed international bandwidth service. This service is scheduled to start in January 1997." The guaranteed international bandwidth service offered by The Internet Solution, ensures that Uninet has full use of 1.2Mbps of bandwidth to the USA. This effectively means that users of Uninet, which is run by the Foundation for Research and Development (FRD), will experience an increase in speed when sending or receiving information internationally. Both satellite and fibre optic technology will be utilised when routing the Uninet international traffic. According to Mike Lawrie, Manager of Uninet, the 1.2Mbps service will be upgraded on a regular basis to keep up with the requirement of Uninet users. "This will enable us to stay ahead of the demand curve for bandwidth," he explains. "We have confidence in dealing with The Internet Solution. Our decision to link up with them was strongly influenced by their aggressive pricing structure and their sound technical ability." According to Frankel, "The Internet Solution is thrilled to be the official bandwidth supplier to what is arguably South Africa's most important network, namely the research and academic network. We are very proud that Uninet has chosen to support a local organisation." =============================================================== -- Mike Lawrie, Phone: +27 12 481-4148 Manager:UNINET, Fax: +27 12 349-1179 Foundation for Research Development, P O Box 2600, Pretoria 0001 South Africa
